These 3in. vinyl toy collectibles are from The Scavengers Series 1 released by Mindstyle.
The design was based on the jaw-dropping painting collection, entitled Misery Children by another of my favorite artists, Kathie Olivas.
From left; is Dexter, Aubrie and Winston. It was intentional not to collect all the characters from the series. I only bought the ones I like. (Can't wait for series 2!)
Kathie Olivas is genius, her characters are so wird and beautiful and cute at the same time. though i usually prefer her work in "vinyl" form than in print or canvas form, i know it might sound like a sacrilege but i can't resist little creatures like the scavengers and hazel.

really? i would have thought that Kathie Olivas would have hordes of fans anywhere where art is shared. i don't know that much because i have been in dA for only a week or so.
Kathie Olivas is one of those artists that when you first see her work, you say: "oh, this is exactly what i'd like to be drawing (or the toys i'd like to be designing)"... which is not to say one shouldn't have a style of our own, but only means that artists such as Kathie have a great inspirational effect on one's work... even before knowing KO exists. same happened to me with DoktorA and his mechtorians characters. i think both Kathie and DoktorA also share elements in common with Tim Burton and Dr. Seuss.

not here. i don't know why. Kathie has more following in flickr. i actually added her in my flickr toy account. she faved my photo, and that's when i knew that she's on flickr. Julia West is there as well. even the popular toy photographer, Brian McCarty is there.
oh i love mechtorians too! i wish i own one. maybe soon. Kathie Olivas, DoktorA, Tim Burton, Dr. Seuss... they all have already established their own style. and not only do they have a style. they have a concept behind the aesthetics. simply put, their art has depth. and i guess that's what makes them the envy of their fellow artists.
yes, plus these artists are very susceptible to imitation, pagiarism, and theft. which is one of the hardest prices to pay when you are an accomplished and unique artist such as Kathie, Tim, DoktorA, etc.
here is my Flickr account, in case you'd like to add me, you're welcome to, i'd very much like that.
i'm still very, very clumsy and unefficient at using deviantART and Flickr as sharing and promotion tools, but i guess i'll get the hang of it sooner or later, if i just keep posting and sharing.
also i'll check out Brian McCarty, i think i don't know him yet, thanks for the tip!

You did a great job on them

Nonetheless you did a great job on capturing the characters through lens. Also the perspective is really nice!

I am really a big fan of her work.
Great to know someone who adores her too.
It's kind of rare to encounter a Kathie Olivas fan here in dA.
